Today the words "In God We Trust" is common place on US currency, but this was not always the case. The bronze 2 cents type coins were the first to include the famous motto. These coins were minted from 1864 to 1873 and were a product of The Act of April 22, 1864. The first year issues could be found in two varieties; large motto and small motto.
